GreenUpMySpaces SIP Planters and Grow Beds use a novel technique called Sub-Irrigation for watering plants. Sub-Irrigation is the process of watering plants from a water reservoir below instead of Top surface of soil. It’s same watering technique that Mother Nature uses to provide water to plants and trees from Water Table below ground during hot summer days .

How GreenUpMySpaces SIPs Work?

GreenUpMySpaces SIP Planters and Grow Beds are fitted with a SIP system. It  has a Water Reservoir at the bottom of Planter/Grow Bed underneath the Potting Soil.  A Water Filling Pipe is provided in corner of Planter/Grow Bed for filling Water into Water Reservoir.  The Water from the Reservoir Wicks Up into Potting Soil and gets absorbed by the plant roots through Capillary Action. As long as there is water in Water Reservoir of SIP Planter/Grow Bed, the wicking action keeps Potting Soil consistently and uniformly moist reducing the frequency of watering plants,  a boon while you are away from home travelling.

The Excess Water Drainage Tube  on the lower side wall of SIP has two critical functions.

  • It maintains water level in water reservoir and prevent Planter or Grow Bed from getting flooded during heavy rains or excess water poured in Water Filling Pipe.
  • It allows air to flow inside Planter or Grow Bed’s’ Potting Soil for healthy plant root growth

It avoids under/ over watering of plants and prevents frequent drainage of precious soil nutrients with excess water.

By switching to Sub-Irrigated Planters (SIP) or Grow Beds, you can now grow multiple plants, veggies and herbs with smart utilization of space and high yield of veggies and herbs.
